Kb Spice true Cinnamon sticks (Cinnamomum verum aka True Cinnamon) are harvested from eco-friendly farms on the Caribbean island Grenada, known as the Isle of Spice.  Farmers harvest the true cinnamon sticks in small bunches by hand with no destruction of the trees or the environment.  No chemicals or artificial processing are used.  Our true Grenada Cinnamon is dried in the sun and packaged for your use.

True Cinnamon is not to be confused with the less healthy, cheaper, most common variety called Cassia.  To tell the two types of cinnamon apart: Cassia is dark, reddish-brown and the Cassia sticks are thick and hard.  True Cinnamon like ours is much lighter in colour and the sticks are easily breakable.  The FDA allows both Cassia and True Cinnamon to be labelled as “Cinnamon” so be sure to keep this in mind when you shop for cinnamon.

True cinnamon is an essential ingredient in every Grenadian kitchen with many health benefits:

  • Supports a healthy digestive system. Acts as a natural digestive aid, reduces indigestion, nausea, upset stomach, and can help to relieve flatulence.
  • Has anti-diabetic effects. True Cinnamon can lower blood sugar levels and can potentially increase insulin sensitivity by activating insulin receptors.
  • Enhances cognitive function and protects brain health.
  • Rich in antioxidants.
  • Helps fight intestinal Candida.
  • Helps boost the immune system.

True Cinnamon can be consumed as a hot tea or can be added to your water for flavour (to taste).  Also, true cinnamon is used in cooking and baking. It can be used to add flavour to hot beverages such as hot chocolate and coffee or dishes such as oatmeal and porridge.
